The Cosmos is Closer,
Thanks to The University of Arizona
UA scientists have designed and now are creating mirrors for the world’s largest optical telescope. Called the Giant Magellan Telescope, it will open a new window on the universe and answer questions for future generations of astronomers. The giant mirrors with an innovative honeycomb design are being cast here: The colossal telescope will be completed in 2016 and assembled in northern Chile. The UA is one of the finest centers in the world to study astronomy and we attract some of the world’s best students. With access to world-class telescopes and international leaders in astronomy, our students are helping to discover the secrets of the night skies.
